The Directors of McCullagh Lupton Quinn are determined to maintain their ability to offer a complete suite of services delivered with the benefit of a firm grounding in the latest industry literature, products and processes. The following is an example of further learning courses undertaken by the Directors recently:-

Conservation and Evaluation of Historic Buildings

Andrew completed an accreditation course in 2008 through the Society of Chartered Surveyors on the Conservation and Evaluation of Historic Buildings. The course included the study of conservation philosophy and the recording of historic buildings, structural repair of historic buildings, decay and cleaning of masonry and brick, the use of lime in historic buildings, specifying and costing of works etc.

New Public Works Contracts

Shane completed a 3 module course on the New Public Works Contracts from April to June 2008 delivered by OLM Consultancy on behalf of the Society of Chartered Surveyors. The course gave a thorough insight into the full suite of new government contracts. It also explored their effect on the practical day to day running of projects. The three modules were titled Budgeting & Pre-Tender Estimating, Procurement and finally Contract Administration.

Construction Project Management

Brendan successfully completed a two year Masters Degree in Construction Project Management over the period 2005 – 2007. This programme is at NQF Level 9 incorporating a significant element of blended learning where technology and traditional modes of learning were used to effectively deliver an intense two year programme on a part time basis without any break in employment.

The course modules included Construction Law, Economics with particular emphasis on the Construction Sector, Financial Management of Projects, Strategic Management, Marketing and Project Management. A dissertation entitled “Factors affecting effective Cost Control of Construction Projects” with particular emphasis on the Irish Construction Industry was also undertaken and successfully completed as part of the course.

Energy Performance of Buildings

The directors of MLQ have a keen interest in sustainable construction. We have carried out detailed studies in conjunction with a market leading insulation supplier where we have conducted a range of cost benefit analyses on alternative insulation solutions. Brendan has successfully carried out the Building Energy Ratings Assessor Course which allows us to use the DEAP Software to assist in assessing renewable energy measures with a view to recommending the most cost effective energy solutions.
